Catalog Description

Use 3D lidar scans and photogrammetry to create virtual reality versions of world heritage sites and develop an interactive online library to house the VR collections. The project expands on a VR development program embedded in Study Abroad programs in Greece and Italy, leveraging existing data and projects that need further development. The team will enable all GT students to work on computational media for cultural heritage and create virtual museums of geographically isolated artifacts and archaeological sites.

Issues Involved:

  1. Transparency of evidence among the hypotheses.  By providing reconstructions overlaid on the photogrammetric data, we will ensure that the amount of evidence among the hypothesis is appropriately communicated.
  2.  Variability. Uncertainty will be communicated with variable reconstructions that will highlight the range of possibilities.

Methods and Technologies:

  • Digital documentation, photogrammetry, lidar scanning
  • Digital modeling, parametric modeling
  • VR environments, C# programing for interactivity
