Second semester of integrated sequence in music theory, aural training, music technology, and music literature.
Each student will be able to:
• Comprehensively understand and write 4-part harmony with modulations
• Possess an in-depth understanding of classical era composers – Mozart, Haydn, Beethoven
• Provide simple harmonic analysis of pieces
• Analyze form of sonatas, rondos, sonata rondos, and theme and variations
• Understand simple musical/instrument acoustics
• Aurally identify works of music from different eras
• Dictate harmonic and melodic excerpts, including simple exercises
• Sight-sing simple melodies
• Identify error detection exercises (rhythmic and melodic)
Open Music Theory textbook, coding editor (like VS Code, Nano, etc), and a personal laptop.
Class participation/att., Homework, Quizzes, Concert Reports (3), Projects, Final Exam
The final grade for the course will be determined by dividing the total points earned by the number of points possible for each of the categories listed in Method of Evaluation. These numbers will be converted into a grade according to the following scale: A=100-90%, B=89-80%, C=79-70%, D= 69-60%, F= 59% and below.
Regular attendance is expected and required. Attendance will be taken at each class.
Students are expected to maintain the highest standards of academic integrity. All work submitted must be original and properly cited. Plagiarism, cheating, or any form of academic dishonesty will result in immediate consequences as outlined in the university's academic integrity policy.
