Course description:

This course examines the construction of personal, cultural, national, political, and regional identity in Hispanic American literature over the past two centuries. Taught in Spanish. 

Course learning outcomes:

Upon successful completion of SPAN 3260, students should be able to: 

  • Critically read and evaluate authentic literary texts in Spanish;
  • Express themselves effectively in writing in the target language in both creative and analytic discourse;
  • Engage in oral communication, participate in discussions, and make presentations in the target language;
  • Connect literary works to the broader cultural context of Latin America;
  • Develop an understanding of cultural differences and perspectives and be able to communicate effectively with people from diverse backgrounds.

Grading policy:

Final course grades will be assigned as a letter grade according to the following scale:

A         90-100%

B         80-89%

C         70-79%

D         60-69%

F          0-59%

The course grade breakdown is as follows: 

In-Class Participation and Assignments - 30%

Reading Quizzes - 30%

Creative Writing Assignment - 10%

Creative Project Assignment - 10%

Final Essay - 20 %

Late work will not be accepted except with an excused absence. 

Attendance policy:

SPAN 3260 A meets once a week on Fridays. Students are expected to attend all class sections. Participation and quiz grades depend on in-class attendance. For excused absences only, students will be able to make up missed work by the next class period.
