A first course in chemistry, surveying its fundamental laws and theories, for some engineering majors. It can serve as the first course in a two course sequence where CHEM 1315 is the second course. Topics include atomic structure; bonding theory; stoichiometry; properties of solids, liquids and gases; chemical thermodynamics; electrochemistry; and kinetics. Credit not allowed for both CHEM 1310 and CHEM 1211K.

First course in a two-semester sequence covering the fundamental principles and applications of chemistry designed for science majors. Topics to be covered include composition of matter, stoichiometry, periodic relations, and nomenclature. Laboratory exercises supplement the lecture material. A one-credit, letter-grade course that meets once per week. It is primarily intended for Chemistry and Biochemistry graduate students in the fall of their 3^rd year; 4^th and 5^th year students are also welcome. The course will provide training and experience in general good writing practices, the organization and writing of scientific publications, and the construction of scientific proposals. The course ends with a mock review panel analogous to NIH study section meetings.

Current topics in molecular biology including eukaryotic transcriptions, RNA processing, repair and recombination, immunity, viruses, DNA fingerprinting, and genome sequencing.

Independent research conducted under the guidance of a faculty member.
