Catalog Description

An introductory course exploring the fundamental principles and technical execution of stage lighting, sound design, costuming, projections, and props construction. Blending online foundational lectures with practical, production-based application, students gain hands-on experience applying technical concepts directly within the DramaTech Black Box Theatre environment. Through structured shop labs, collaborative work sessions, and critical analysis of live DramaTech productions, students develop core technical theater skills while working on active stage productions.

Assessment is based on module completion, discussion assignments, laboratory hour participation (20 hours total), and structured self-reflection under an alternative, mastery-focused grading model. Laboratory hours offer flexible scheduling options across weekend sessions and weekday evening work calls. Safety training is provided; appropriate attire, including closed-toe shoes, is required for all lab participation.
