Catalog Description

This course introduces students to the idea and practice of diplomacy — the conduct of relations between states and other entities with standing in international affairs by official agents and by peaceful means. It will examine the rationale for diplomacy; the evolution of diplomatic practice from early statecraft to contemporary multilateral diplomacy; the different diplomatic norms, institutions, practices, skills, and actors; and the various facets of diplomacy today.
