What happens when a play leaves the page and enters the body?

This course treats drama not only as literature to be read, but as an event to be performed, embodied, and experienced. Combining close reading with theatrical practice, students will move between seminar and studio, learning how meaning in drama emerges through voice, gesture, space, and collaboration. Through scene work, students will learn techniques of character development, objective-setting, and interpretation. At the same time, we will examine how plays engage urgent questions of identity, ethics, and social life, including illness and care, memory and trauma, and the structures that shape human experience.

No prior acting experience is required: only a willingness to experiment, collaborate, and take creative risks.

While broad histories of film cover global cinema from its beginnings to the present, this iteration of Film History appreciates the uniqueness of its location in Metz, France. Focusing on films within the French and surrounding European region, this course—organized by chronology and national cinema— introduces students to the ways that a history of film also becomes a history of place, people, and travel. Students will have the opportunity to integrate local film experience into the history of their own filmgoing and discovery. Built uniquely for Georgia Tech-Europe students, this course aspires to pique curiosity about not only film history but also its depiction of regional landscapes and culture. Assignments will encourage students to connect—whether through embodied travel or virtual research—cinematic places with geographic locale.

LMC 3206, Communication and Culture: Examines ways in which forms and media of communication create and are created by other cultural constructs.

Section 94511, Fall 2026, Disability, Accessibility, and Culture: What does it mean to have a disability? How is this shaped by cultural, historical, technological, biomedical, educational, political, legal, and economic forces? What is the history of disability rights and how can we create a more accessible world? This course will examine both historic and contemporary theories and representations of disability, as well as build students’ understanding of accessible writing and design frameworks to create more inclusive communication.

A composition course focusing on skills required for effective writing in a variety of contexts, with emphasis on exposition, analysis, and argumentation, and also including introductory use of a variety of research skills. Develops analytical reading and writing skills through the investigation of methods used in cultural and literary studies and the application of those methods to specific texts.

A composition course that develops writing skills beyond the levels of proficiency required by ENGL 1101, that emphasizes interpretation and evaluation, and that incorporates a variety of more advanced research methods. Develops communication skills in networked electronic environments, emphasizes interpretation and evaluation of cultural texts, and incorporates research methods in print and on the Internet.
